Alte is considered by many to be one of the the most genuine villages in the Algarve, preserving traditional architecture with whitewashed houses, colourful window bars and decorative chimneys typical of the region. Even today, traces of these traditional mills can be seen along the paths. The region is also known for the production of medronho, honey and local crafts, reflecting the mountain identity.
