A Pomarinho Waterfall or Pego do Amor is located on the Ribeira da Asseca, in the municipality of Tavira, Nestled within a natural trio of waterfalls. It is a small waterfall, formed in limestone tuff, surrounded by vegetation and with a tranquil, largely untouched atmosphere. The flow depends heavily on the time of year, being most beautiful after periods of rain.
Unlike Hell's Catch, The Orange Grove does not have a deep pool for high dives, but it forms small natural pools along the stream, depending on the flow rate. In dry years it can practically disappear, leaving only the rocky bed visible. In winter and spring, with greater rainfall, the scene transforms and water runs over the formations of limestone tufa creating small steps and veils of water.
Historically, the Ribeira da Asseca It was of agricultural importance, supplying the area's farmland. Traces of old rural structures can still be found nearby today. Access to the waterfall is via dirt tracks and informal paths, with no official tourist signage, so extra caution is advised, especially after heavy rainfall.
Often associated with the so-called “Love Catch”, it is part of the same system as the better-known Inferno's Pego Waterfall, which forms a natural lagoon of green waters much sought after for swimming. After a fire in 2012, access was without official infrastructure, maintaining a wilder character. The best time to visit is in spring or autumn, with suitable footwear due to the uneven and slippery trails.
A Pomarinho Waterfall It is located in a rural and sparsely urbanised area in the interior of the municipality of Tavira, integrated into the typical landscape of the Algarve's barrocal – marked by limestone soils, small market gardens, traditional orchards, and Mediterranean vegetation such as carob trees, fig trees, and olive trees. The area is quite quiet and less frequented than the neighbouring Inferno's Pego Waterfall, which makes it more suitable for those seeking tranquility.
