Historically, Santa Luzia has been of great importance to the local economy, functioning as a Maritime trade and artisanal fishing centre, and still maintains traditions linked to maritime culture, such as religious festivals and events related to fishing.
Additionally, the village is a starting point for short boat trips, excursions around the Ria Formosa, and visits to the beaches of Tavira Island, allowing you to combine Nature, culture and leisure in a complete experience.
The village remains traditional fishing crafts, as Net making by hand and the construction/maintenance of typical wooden boats called “Rabelo boats”, used for centuries to catch octopus and other seafood.
The village is strongly linked to Artisanal fishing, and even today it is common to see colourful boats in the harbour and fishermen mending their nets. The local restaurants are distinguished by Seafood gastronomy, especially octopus, clams, prawns and goose barnacles, offering authentic gastronomic experiences to visitors.
Santa Luzia is surrounded by a unique natural landscape, between Islands, channels and salt pans of the Ria Formosa, making it an excellent spot for Birdwatching, including flamingos, herons, and sandpipers, in addition to other species typical of the region. The nearby trails allow for exploring nature, discovering local fauna and flora, and enjoying Unique landscapes of contact with the sea and the estuary.
